What is Instagram Shopping you ask? It is a feature within the app that allows Instagram business accounts to promote their products via organic posts. Users and followers can see the product you tagged, interact with your post by shopping through the products you are promoting, and purchase items all while staying within the app. Its makes for a seamless experience for the user while helping your business grow. All you have to do is post a picture and tag your desired products. Keep reading for details on how to set up and use the feature.

How to switch to an Instagram Business account
There often are times when you might want to promote a new product launch or sale your eCommerce store is holding. However, you don’t want to spend a lot of money, if any. With Instagram’s new shopping feature, now you don’t have to. This addition allows those with a Instagram business account to share posts that highlight products from their attached catalog. Don’t have a business account, no problem. It only takes 7 easy steps:
- Go to you profile and select the Hamburger Menu in the top right corner
- Select the Settings icon
- Pan down and select Account
- Scroll to the bottom and select Switch to Professional Account
- Select Business
- Add any desired details about your business
- Tap Done
Sign Up For Instagram Shopping

Below are images that walk you through how to sign up for Instagram Shopping. Once you have followed through with the steps to connect your catalog, Instagram will review your request for Shopping. This can take anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days. Be patient, it is worth it. Once Instagram approved your request, all that is left is syncing your product catalog to your account.
How to Create Catalog and Sync Products to Instagram/Facebook
You can connect your catalog one of three ways: connecting an eCommerce platform, uploading product feeds manually, or through your Facebook pixel.
Creating Product Catalog
Navigate to your Business Manager Account
Select the Menu
Under assets click the option that says “Catalog”
Tap “Create Catalog”
From there Facebook will walk you through how to create the catalog.
**If you use for your Eccomerce site, contact your Fitted representative. They will create a catalog and connect your products for you**
How to upload products once catalog is created
Select catalog you just created
Select “Products” under manage in the left column
Chose “Add Products”
From here select the method you would like to use to upload products. The three options are:
- Bulk (via spreadsheet)
- Facebook Pixel
Once Instagram Shopping is set up correctly and you have all products uploaded to your catalog, utilizing this feature is as easy as 1, 2, 3
- Select a photo to upload
- Tag the products like you tag a person
- Share your post
